Member of staff at Acton tube station victim of 'hate' crime
British Transport Police (BTP) officers are calling on the public’s help after a member of Tube staff was racially abused.
The incident happened around 1.30pm on Tuesday, 8 October at Acton Town London Underground (LU) station.
PC David Ford, the investigating officer, said: “A man approached a member of staff at the station and asked for a refund on his Oyster card.
“When the victim explained why he couldn’t have the amount requested, the man became racially abusive before leaving the station.
“The man is described as white, 5ft 9ins tall and of a large build. He was wearing a baseball cap, khaki trousers and had a rucksack on his back.”
Officers are following several lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV footage, but still need to speak to any witnesses to the incident.
PC Ford said: “Tube staff should not have to endure abuse or violence for simply carrying out their job and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.
“If you witnessed what happened, or have any information that could help our investigation, then please get in touch.
“BTP does not tolerate Hate Crime and anyone who is a victim should report it immediately to police so we can work to trace and arrest the offender as soon as possible.”
