Street Cleaning in Acton

Hi everyone,I’m really frustrated with the state of Hereford Road and the adjacent streeths. There’s been rubbish and dirty streets piling up for weeks, and despite raising multiple tickets with the council, nothing has been done. It’s not just unsightly—it’s attracting pests and making the area unpleasant for everyone.Has anyone else had similar issues? It feels like the council is just ignoring this, even though we pay council tax for basic services like waste collection. If others are experiencing the same problem, maybe we can put more pressure on them to actually do something about it.Let me know your thoughts!

I find doing some litter-picking makes me feel less futile about the state of Actons streets and parks.Having a go at Acton Park 0815 tomorrow if anyone wants to join…Plus the 24/7 Love clean streets app works and the council is pretty responsive to that. Why not try it?

Have you read the London Plan?  Councils also have to provide housing (and cannot just turn anything they just don't fancy down).  (However daft the idea is as it never seems to be approved until another one is due to be worked on.)If more people were to take pride in their area instead of always expecting someone else to do everything they'll tend to find that an area improves.

While I think it is great for people to get involved, I feel this is about the council trying to shift some of its core responsibilities onto residents. Besides, volunteering to do jobs we pay for doesn't feel right when there are excellent local organisations like The Felix Project that desperately need volunteers. Last autumn, they tried to guilt-trip residents into sweeping up leaves from the streets with messages such as "Wet leaves on pavements can lead to accidents, especially when it rains. You can make your area safer by sweeping up leaves on or near your property. We’re providing free brooms and bags to help"Another example of the council's attempt to push their responsibilities onto the public is the reporting app they are promoting since the patrolling and monitoring of our streets are part of the duties the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (section 89(1) and (2)) imposes on local authorities and the Secretary of State duties to keep public highways clean)Money doesn't seem to be an issue for certain things such as  propaganda, workshops to push their travel agenda hardly anybody attends or pointless consultations, the outcome of which they ignore.If they are not able to cope with the increased demand on their services that building so many new flats create, they should perhaps restrict planning permissions!

Agree, that route is much used and is frequently litter-strewn. I have been hanging bags at various spots to see if that helps - just started a month ago so early days. But if the bags work. I can ask Greener Ealing to consider installing a bin.

Fortunately for us, unlike Birmingham at present, we DO have our waste collected regularly. All Councils are under huge pressure and the more individuals can do to help look after their neighbourhood, the better. Can anywhere be worse than the top section of Oldham Terrace that goes south off Acton High Street opposite the Oaks?  The litter is unbelievable.  There are no residential properties here, only the Mosque and the side entrance to the Catholic Church.  Perhaps the council feels that this makes it less of a priority.  But I wish that there was some way of changing attitudes so that people get a sense of it being wrong and antisocial to drop litter and so find a bin or take it home.  Meanwhile hats off to the LAGER volunteers who do a wonderful job.

Yep. The streets in Acton are disgusting, it's not only your street. The problem is everybody gives the council excuses about them having no money so they know they can get away with it. Why would they bother to keep the area nice when they keep on getting voted in no matter how badly they behave?  Maybe once our council tax goes up they will actually do their job. (Yes, I don't believe that either).
