Street Art in Acton

Hi everyone, I am currently in the process of conducting research for my University of Edinburgh dissertation which focuses on street in Acton.As I am sure most of you are aware of, over the past decade, Acton has become home to multiple street art murals.I would love to know local residents opinions of these murals. For example, have you noticed a change in the area and community since their introduction? Have you noticed an increase in graffiti since their introduction? If anybody is willing to to have their opinions and stories anonymously included that would be amazing! Whether you just drop a small paragraph below or are willing to partake in a short interview, it is all about getting the voices of the residents included. Thanks! Beth

The murals have added colourful focal points around Acton. You may not remember, but you did come on one of my Ealing Walking, Talking and Exploring  walks featuring Acton street art a good few years ago. I've offered them over the years, free if I've managed to secure some funding. I'm a tour guide and cover street art sometimes in different locations, but I raised it before to various parties we have all the amazing street art but no Street Art tour! Having street art tours would increase tourism!

My view is that these murals have made a significant contribution to improving the quality of life of Acton. The large scale ones in the estates are playful and cheer people up, the Jamal Edwards one on the High Street sends an important message and the one by Churchfield Road is just beautiful.The impression I have is that they have reduced the amount of graffiti because they highlight the potential of public spaces and vandalism tends to be a reaction to neglect rather than an attempt to spoil something of value.
