New Sudanese restaurant in high street
Toteil - near Zahra pharmacy and opposite town hall - only opened about a month ago. It’s an authentic Sudanese restaurant and really enjoyable.Service is a little slow - still finding its feet and it seems everything is really freshly cooked. The food is both amazing and stunning value. Seven of us ate ourselves to a standstill for £120.We were lucky and guided by two Sudanese chaps in our party and they chose well: the chicken coated in peanut was delicious and I loved the lamb stew - which you eat, messily with injeera-style Ethiopian bread. There’s also kofta and a delicious foul madama. Apart from the latter, it’s hopeless for vegetarians. Sudanese baklava (no nuts) or sort of doughnuts - delicious - for dessert. Not licensed and like the Somali place we also like, you can’t take in alcohol. At least we didn’t see anyone do so - unlike Anokha or Java Fusion. Will definitely go again…
