Churchfield Road baking shop is closing

Apparently it’s selling its stock off for half price.Shame but unsurprising - beyond niche…

Doctor Bike at Acton market (next up 6 July) provides a free alternative once a month. I do appreciate you can't necessarily time your punctures to fit in with this schedule but they would look at donated bike for you.

Woolsey’s is great and I am a regular customer. But it’s a bit of a schlep with a puncture or several donated bikes for assessment/repair. Something jolly close would be fab

It's HMRC's job to deal with such businesses. There does seem to be a decision taken at central government level not to go after them. Perhaps they are worried about the impact on High Street vacancies.Although a bike repair shop in the area would be welcome, Churchfield Road is probably not the place for it as most cyclists steer clear of it due to the risk of being stuck at the level crossing. Woolseys on Acton Lane provides excellent service if you need a repair.

The couple who tried to make a go of the Baking Shop had intended for it to be one of those places where you bring your own container and fill up with baking & groceries - flour, cereals, grains, sugars, coffee etc etc.  Great idea I would have thought and in quite a catchment for wfh couples and young people with the income that could afford the service. A pity it never really got off the ground as agree please not another coffee shop. Another gifty shop would be perfect like Otto Trading.

I don’t think it did lack tyre marks or footfall - it just moved to bigger premises on the Vale (just too far away for comfort)Do wonder if there is an infinite appetite for more coffee shops in Churchfield Road. Seems super-served already..What else?

The one that used to be at the level crossing closed through lack of footfall (tyre fall?) so you can probably look forward to another over priced cafe.

It wasn’t a nasty comment at all: it is risky setting up a shop just selling a very niche product - easily obtainable online, but with no online presence.All I was expressing was a lack of surprise.A bike repair shop would be nice - can only do that with physical presence - but maybe it’s not big enough. Some sort of service though might make a go of it…

I have great sympathy for the people who tried to make a go of it, having started three small businesses myself over the years I know only too well the extremely hard graft that goes into a new venture.I hope the disappointment they are suffereing doesn't deter them from trying something else and wish them Very Good Luck, we are a Nation Of Shopkeepers, entrepeneurialism is our life blood.  👍
