Mr Bates and the Post Office.

I have been following the the unbelievable saga of Mr Bates and the Post Office. Just watching the documentary now on ITV 1 Plus. I am wondering if OVO Energy are using the same Horizon computer system to cause stress to many thousands of OVO and former OVO customers as the post office was using. There are thousands of these customers who have complained that when they were switched from SSE to OVO they went from hundreds of pounds in credit to allegedly being up to £8000 in debit. Television, radio and newspapers nationwide have fought to get OVO to get their house in order. Large numbers of customers have had their gas and electric cut off owing to OVO's incompetence. According to today's Telegraph OVO  Energy’s parent company lends billionaire OVO founder Stephen Fitzpatrick £36m.

I'm going to follow Mr Bates' lead and remain optimistic that justice will, eventually, be done.

Interesting reflection on modern society and its "New Thinking" that just taking away a gong or two and/or a resignation or two is deemed sufficient "punishment."More than one need to be jailed for this absolute and deliberate travesty.But, of course, that will never happen will it.

Being continually threatened with bailiffs and court action over alleged debt is very intimidating though.

A great series - and always interesting when a drama focussed attention - shades of “Cathy comes Home”. I think it’s because you can tell the stories in drama in a way that documentary can’t… so it’s this making the difference in spite of Radio4 and Panorama programmes as well as much coverage in Computer Age and Private Eye.Even if you well-acquainted with the scandal, it was really powerful.Hope it makes a difference.(And don’t see the connection with OVO or even smart meters, except incompetent IT and big business.  In neither case are the public being accused of fraud and threatened with prison. )
