He was 65 and had been councillor for Victoria Ward from 1984 to 2002 and East Acton Ward from 2002 to 2006. He was Labour Parliamentary candidate for Ealing Acton in 2087 and Millenium Mayor of Ealing 1999 to 2000. He was also founder-treasurer of West Acton Trade Union Club and sometime president as well as serving as a trustee of Acton (Middlesex) Charities, chair of Acton Community Forum, treasurer of Acton Ealing Labour Party, secretary of Ealing Co-op Party and executive member of Acton History Group. He lived in Acton all his life apart from three years at Hull University, and was a pupil at John Perryn and Faraday High Schools, both of which he was a governor.
