Data Protection Law.

Can anyone please help with a possible legal conundrum. If I have a window cleaning round, as I understand it each and every customer would have to give signed written permission for me to keep a record of their  address. However, if I had say 70 customers on the fictitious road Abercwmbucket Street would I be breaking Data Protection Law if I just kept a record of door numbers without recording the name of the street?I.E. 1-5-8-34- etc.

Hi - you don’t need consent to record names and addresses of customers for legitimate purposes such as providing services they have asked for / billing. if the customer indicated they no longer wanted these services or stopped using the services for a significant time you should delete the data.You would in theory be obliged to give each customer a notice telling them what you’re doing with their data, etc., but I can’t imagine anyone being concerned about that if you are just going to use the data for the obvious purposes eg providing window cleaning services and billing.You might need consent if e.g. you were going to send them marketing commmunications by email or text - then the law gets a bit more complicated.
