Wilko could go under

It has just been announced that Wilko is on the brink of administration.Fingers crossed for the staff at the local store who are really nice. Surprised that this is happening as it offered a wide range of stock at good prices and always seemed quite busy.

Acton shutting today. The hope remains that the relatively quick closure is, in a strange way, a positive sign, because it indicates another company has bought out the lease and the stock and will reopen at the same site, with many of the same staff, quite soon.

Wilko Acton will go next week. The hope is that it is not a coincidence that the number of stores announced as being acquired by B&M Bargains is similar to the store closure announcement and this will just be a rebranding. The Oaks is already struggling to fill units so it would be bad news for them. Bargains may be had for the next few days but spare thought for the staff who have always been great.

Today is supposed to be deadline day but there has been no announcement as yet. I went into the store and although it is clearly not fully stocked the advertised 'administration sale' offered relatively few bargains. I wasn't planning to buy much but to give my best wishes to the staff. I could be proved wrong by the time you read this post, but the lack of any evident fire sale prices, suggests a new owner may be on hand.

The latest news on this doesn't look very good and the Oaks could be about to lose a tenant. Bring back Poundstretcher!

Yes, it's good to have one in The Oaks, perhaps their prices are too competitive?

It's a useful shop and I'd be sorry to lose it. It would leave a big hole in The Oaks too.
