No “sufficient electrical capacity for a new connection” until up to 2035.

Oh, poor Ealing Council and Developers........ wottashame.  We live in hope, there IS a God!     😁From the story on the front page............The issue has come to light after a developer recently made an application for a scheme to be connected to the grid and was told that there is not “sufficient electrical capacity for a new connection” until up to 2035.

The National Grid cannot cope. Soon even more load as more electric cars come on line.

May be not, but no bank is going to lend money for a development without assurance that electrical connections can be made to complete the project.

I believe planning permission lapses if work has not begun within 3 years of permission being granted.

So, the Towers curently under construction, may be "Refused" and not "fully" connected if they haven't already been "Signed off" by the power supplier?. Obviously they will be drawing an amount of power for the construction but at what point do the Developers usually apply for "Full" connection to feed all the flats?If we are V lucky they leave applying for "Full" power until nearer the end of construction?Poor Tower Developers .............. 😥

Planning has nothing to do with connecting to the grid. The capacity is set by the utility company task with managing the supply. The developer will need to apply and provide the necessary information and then and only then will the supply be connected. If there is not sufficient capacity then they will not be connected as the wiring will catch fire....

When you say 'approved' development' would that include Manor Park which has been held up for six months due to TfL safety concerns? Or Rosebank way? PP given in 2015 but so shoddily built that it's never been occupied? I notice Consent was given to remove the flammable cladding on that development last year, but no work has been done. I'm a bit puzzled.

I can't see how this can stop approved developments but there's now a question mark over any project that doesn't have planning permission.

I've seen the story in the FT but can anyone say whether this applies to developments under construction right now?
