Global Heating
In July last year Ealing Friends of the Earth highlighted a video released by the Met Office with a weather forecast for 2050 showing London boiling with summer temperatures in the 30s and 40s °C. You can view it here: www.ealingfoe.org.uk/weather-2050Just one year later we don't have to wait for 2050 - we've already got the extreme heat that the Met Office feared. The UN secretary general has just warned that humanity is facing "collective suicide". Step forward the Conservative candidates for PM: almost the only cost saving they can think of is cutting the tiny green levy of £3/week per household.Extreme weather isn't just uncomfortable; heat and drought threaten our crops and farm animals. Even when it happens elsewhere in the world, it affects us too because we import almost half of our food. It also threatens our infrastructure: electricity and water supplies, transport, etc. Every single reputable scientific body on Earth is worried about global heating. The inaction by our politicians is shameful.
