South Acton Family Last Hold Outs in Condemned Block.

I applaud this Man and his Family! It is good that He is taking a stand.  This is happening to too many People who are being priced out of the area they live.  I hope The council offer him a similar affordable property on the Estate.  Why should He have to move?

The proposed 'decanting arrangements' for the South Acton Estate included this:'In order to ensure (that) leaseholders are able to remain living in the area should they choose, Acton Gardens has made available a number of properties for leaseholders in each phase of the new build programme. Equity share allows leaseholders to move to a new property on the estate by putting down their buy-back value, with the outstanding amount held as a first charge on the property by the housing association. No interest or rent is payable on the outstanding amount and the equity is only repayable on the sale of the property.'So in theory, this family should have been able to stay on the Estate without having to pay the higher market price for a new flat.  Or maybe this scheme didn't happen or is no longer avaialble?

Have a look to see what is happening here about retrofitting instead of demolishing and rebuilding.Councils and developers need to rethink their actions.

What's "Right to buy" got at all to do with it?  Nothing.I am asking simple, straightforward questions that many on here would like to know the answers to.No need for the politicising.Sheesh."I don't know the detail, but if he was a social or council tenant he would have had the right to buy (RTB)- brought in by Thatcher and the cause, in my view, of all the housing problems that now exist - too many people waiting too long for too little affordable housing. because the money raised by RTB was never reinvested by the Govt as it should have been. Presumably there are some people who are happy to downsize and also to move away.  It must depend on where your family is in its life journey.  BTW Retrofitting should be considered before rebuilding as far as the environment is concerned and  there is a lot of concern that LBE does not take this seriously enough and has been too happy to opt for demolishing and rebuilding everywhere.

Why would anyone choose to go from owning a whole property to shared ownership? Genuine question. I don't see the point. Also you have rather hefty service charges I believe?

You can watch the documentary on i player, its heartbreaking. Not sure he has been offered another home? He has been offered a sum of money which is not enough to allow him to stay in Acton or indeed probably anywhere in London. Why should he have to move out of the area? His daughters go to school here. He bought his flat some years ago and just wants enough money to stay in the area. Not too much to ask.

It’s holding up the whole project and  yes  has been offed another home. Plus the Money for the inconvenience.A lot  of people don’t  get this.Who would want to live like that now.

I think he’s lucky to be offered that amount .I didn’t get that and I moved from a lovely three bedroom maisonette ,ime sure he’s got the chance to own half of one of the new apartments in Acton Gardens ..the block he lives in is terrible ,the new apartments are fantastic .
