I'm sure we would all be pleased to have access to cash and a banking hub in Acton.Could you please complete this short survey to gather data. It's all confidential but the more responses the better they say https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surveymonkey.co.uk%2Fr%2F5V7FZZF&data=04%7C01%7Cmark.essex%40ukfinance.org.uk%7C9947ffbcfd684ebaf7c308d9dd06e6f0%7C70e4dd2eaab74c6aa8823b6e7a39663e%7C1%7C0%7C637783844019105636%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=2vZoKOhI4wben8hlxAM8Ith0TR2HCXmMSo8oKABeICM%3D&reserved=0

Hot news. We took the Directors of Cash Access UK on a tour of Acton highlights so they could soak up a bit of local colour. What luck! The Nat West cash machine on the High Street was smashed and Directors felt it was unsafe anyway. The cash machine in the Casino is apparently for customers only. The one in Morrisons had a queue, and the last one at Sainsburys was declared too far from the High St. When the senior manager from Link arrived he was berated for not agreeing to install a machine already. I think we are agreed there should be one as soon as possible. Nice.We also want a deposit box so traders wanting to lodge money at night or the weekend can do so. Generally agreed to make sense.

The formal opening of the Banking hub will be on Thursday 15th June. Surprise well known TV personality. Might even be cake

I dropped in today and spoke to two very friendly and helpful people who are looking forward to more customers as news gets round. No ATMs yet but they are able to process cheques and cash paid in, cash withdrawals and usual counter services. Several people looked in, as I did, to check on progress, and they would be glad if we pass on the word that they are open for business.
Lorna Dodd ● 178d
Yes. Meetings with banking still in a private space. ATMs still a work in progress.r
Maire Lowe ● 190d
Has it got ATMs? I thought this was for in-person meetings with those banks booking a slot (not, unfortunately mine - Honkers & Shankers being a laggard here)
Sara Nathan ● 194d
The new branch is taking shape nicely. I was in the centre yesterday and took this snap.

This has taken 2 years and now Rupa Huq wants credit. As the underground site is hardly conducive to using ATMs given the ever increasing violent crime in Sadiq Khan's London its nothing I or any other elderly and disabled person will be using.

Press release here. See front page.http://www.actonw3.com/default.asp?section=info&page=actbankinghub004.htm

Indeed there is progress. A press release is being prepared, but it looks like opening in early June. Acton will have the first Banking hub in London and the first in any densely populated urban area. The trials have all been in coastal areas. Rupa Huq has tweeted photos of the site meeting the other day, and I guess more information will be in the front page of this magazine next week. Absolutely thrilled. Long awaited and much needed. Good for us.

Last week when I was in the Oaks I spotted a sign (think it was the unit next to KFC) indicating construction work - don't know if it is for the bank. I schlepped into Ealing to Natwest on Tuesday...
Lorna Dodd ● 232d
Any update? Really needed a bank today and the choice was Ealing or Chiswick. Bit of a schlep really…

Activity in the Oaks unit which will house the Banking hub. A story of the front page of this magazine. Anyone would think it was Spring!
Maire Lowe ● 267d
Thanks for that info Maria. Great news. Save this nonagenarian from having to traipse to Barclays in Ealing

We were all delighted to hear from the Banking Hub people this morning." to let you know that we have had our offer on the lease accepted for the Banking Hub. The landlord is currently doing some construction work to separate the two existing units but we have both signed an ‘agreement to lease’, and we expect to sign the final lease and be given the keys by the end of March. We expect to open to the early summer should the refit work go to plan – we’ve appointed builders. Once we have the keys we will be able to do some publicity, get posters up and really start making the Hub come alive for Acton"Good news for Acton, for the Oaks and grateful thanks to everyone who persisted in keeping Acton in the front of Banking minds.
Maire Lowe ● 281d
Many thanks for the update. But as they haven't even signed the lease yet, I'm not holding my breath!

Update. Two hubs opened in the last couple of weeks. One in Brixham in Devon and another in Cottingham near Hull. We understand that in both cases the freehold for the buildings belonged to Lloyd's,so transfer to UK Finance was simple. Rupa Huq raised the matter in Parliament as part of the debate on the Financial Services and Markets Bill. (See Hansard for an account) And we have heard from UK Finance to say they believe they are 'almost ready'to sign the lease. Once that has happened, we will have an opening date.We would like to think this will happen before Christmas but no promises.

It seems unnecessary to find and fit out new premises for this Banking Hub when aren't there already several ex-bank premises in Acton standing empty?
Peter Evans ● 358d
Sorry for late reply. I've been out of the country. I've emailed Rupa Huq's office and will follow up later in the week. The last update we received was that Heads of Agreement with the Oaks management had been signed + there was some negotiation about fitting out costs. We assumed that had to do with security. But that was at the end of the summer. There should have been some progress. I will come back to this forum asap.

Maire, what happened to the promised banking hub? I was in the Oaks this afternoon and it doesn't look as though any of the currently vacant lots is being prepared for occupation...Any news?
Lorna Dodd ● 365d
Don’t bank in Acton & I was majorly put off by your click on some link, whatever you had to do.Banks are scum, go online!!!!The trouble I had with Natwest.People, face to face, not bloody phones & we are experiencing a high number of calls.Co op apparently are providing cash machines in their storesLegal tender, easy to access so no fat cat dictated
Peter Yale ● 476d
I wonder if it'll be inside The Oaks, or one of the outside units directly facing Churchfield Road (like the new tutoring place) - the developers have plenty of both to shift still!
Alexandra Green ● 486d
Well the point of the Banking hub is to provide access to cash + is especially aimed at traders who deal in cash.I guess they won't have any trouble. People seeking private appointments to discuss loans etc can park and so on.
Maire Lowe ● 486d
In the Oaks? I thought it was going to be on the mount…What a shame - it’s doomed there with hardly any passing trade. Is it ever busy? I’ve never been…
Sara Nathan ● 487d
Update on the banking hub for Acton. They have signed Heads of Terms for a Unit in the Oaks but not yet completed. There will need to be fitting out, security installed, staff recruitment etc. Unlikely to open in 2022 I suspect, but early 2023 is very likely. Patience dear neighbours, patience.

Acton Post Office ( 22 June 2022)Acton Post Office closed in 2018 due to local redevelopment plans. Over the past years, Post Office has visited the area and advertised for a new postmaster with premises, but no applications were received. Post Office is aware that since Acton Post Office closed, the majority of its customers have been using other nearby branches. There are three nearby Post Offices providing a fullrange of services within a mile of the centre of Acton - at Horn Lane, The Vale and Ealing Common. In addition, last year Post Office opened a new Drop & Collect branch at 271 Acton Lane.Drop & Collect provides customers with convenient return or collection of their onlineshopping as well as access to Payzone bill payment services. Post Office has been trialling this new service to respond to the increasing customer demand in the online prepaid parcelsmarket and the response to date has been very positive. There are also plans to open Acton Banking Hub which will provide full banking services plus bill payments services at the counter. Post Office is contracted by UK Finance to operate the Banking Hub which will also provide customers with access to meet community bankers on selected days. It is important to note, as UK Finance have previously explained, Banking Hubs and Post Offices are separate propositions. However, some Post Office services will be available at the Banking Hub counter and we anticipate that customers in Acton will use the Hub for paying bills and accessing cash and banking services.Post Office is pleased to be introducing further access to Post Office services in Acton, to complement the existing Post Offices in the area. In the current, challenging economic climate, Post Office must ensure that its funding from Government prioritises sustainable services in locations where there is unmet need. Therefore, Post Office has no immediate plans to replace the Acton Post Office that closed in 2018. Post Office will continue to monitor customer demand in Acton, including the usage of the Drop & Collect branch on Acton Lane, plus the banking and bill payment services that will be provided by the Banking Hub later this year. Should there be changes that lead to new, unmet demand, Post Office will review provision and adjust its plans as required.

The banking hub took a step nearer today with a meeting between the bankers,Rupa Huq, two Acton Councillors, Natasha Patel of Acton BiD and some residents. Possible sites have been shortlisted+ they hope to sign a lease by end June. Some possibility the hub will open for business later this year. More detailed updates to follow.

Quick reminder that this survey closes soon Only 100 replies. Do we want a banking hub? I've got to trek to Ealing today to lodge some cash. Could you spare a minute to complete the survey?
Maire Lowe ● 637d
