Keeping a Diesel car as ULEZ arrives
We've made the decision not to sell our car which is a Euro standard 5 diesel. We bought the car originally because of its very low emissions particularly of carbon dioxide. When we looked at alternatives it was difficult to match that. Most of our mileage is done by visiting relatives in the north and, as yet, even if we could afford one, electric vehicles don't really work well for this kind of driving. The only negative of the car is slightly higher nitrogen dioxide emissions but given our usage and the filters on the exhaust this is negligible in our case.
Our assumption is because of the low usage of the car, the extra cost of occasionally getting a ULEZ charge would not be sufficient to justify the expense of getting a new car. This of course only works if there are cameras to levy the charge only at the North Circular. Does anybody know if there will be more charging points within the zone?
