Is there a correlation between Lefty Councils and appallingly bad Social "Services"?

Do Lefty Councils over-apply Political Correctness to their policies, to the detriment of the people they supposedly serve?Now we have Lambeth, to add yet another to the growing list of Council Social Services failures up and down the country.From comments on here Ealing Social "Services" could be next?

I will try one final “re-articulation” as best as I can, unfortunately I am no intellectual.  😊The unbridled, zealous, ruthless and ultimately ruinous application of Politics and Politically Correct Wokeness (PCW), without any/due regard for their "clients", within Council Social Services, has zero to do with any bigger picture of Tory cuts.If you were just "batting back" my favourite quote, why have you stated in your previous post "The Govt holds the purse strings"?  Aren't you alluding yet again, as always, to the dreaded cause of ALL evil, the standard Lefty "will fix everything" solution to ALL our problems - "It's the Tory cuts!"? Please re-read my initial posting, and try & comprehend. Rather than attempting "The Lefty swerve" of desperately trying to steer the conversation from one that is uncomfortably true onto another completely unrelated but safer topic which suits your agenda.Why is EVERYTHING unsatisfactory in the Lefty's world purely down to "The Tory cuts!"  If you want to talk about looking at/seeing a bigger picture, Labour needs to acknowledge  that there is a poisonous PCW culture infecting their Social Services ranks. There's loads of PCW in the other Parties too but Labour embrace it unreservedly and unthinkingly blanket apply it inappropriately with devastating consequences in Council Social Services.I am not saying that “The Tory cuts!” are not a contributing factor to many of our problems, but in the context of dysfunctional Social Services the cuts are a completely separate and unrelated issue, NOW do you get my point?I thank you, Over and Out..............            😎

My point, btw, is STILL about the blind, zealous, blanket application of stringent Politically Correct Woke practices infecting so many Council Social Services, with the known dire & tragic results. The Govt holds the purse strings over Council Tax. The only acknowledgement in the last few years was when the Govt gave permission for Councils to raise it more than a small amount but the money had to be used for social.  Doesn't everyone know by now that social care is in dire straits?  And without a solution to social care the NHS remains heavily overloaded with people who should be discharged. No Govt dares to bite the bullet despite promises.

I suspect that the point Rosco is trying to make is that some of the examples he gave are long standing (eg the recent court case regarding Lambeth social services) and precede 'Tory cuts', sometimes by many years. However, in answer to the question he raised in his original post, by answer would be an unequivocal no. In my view these failing are rather more a product of our poor system of local democracy, whereby many councils are effectively one-party states (both Tory and Labour) and this is always a recipe for dodgy dealings. The solution surely is to introduce PR into local government elections. The other question to ask is why are local councils so reliant on government grants? Surely, they should be required to raise a significant proportion of their revenue from the council tax?

But you haven’t.  You’ve just proclaimed that there is no connection without any supporting arguments and ranted about supposedly ‘woke’ people.  Isn’t it obvious that the bigger the grant from the government, the more there is to spend on, say, bobbies on the beat, libraries etc? (And this is not in any way to defend wastage.)You can repeat ‘cuts are irrelevant’ until you’re blue in the face but that doesn’t make it true or persuasive.

Rosco, I patiently tried to explain why I believe cuts are bound to be relevant and have consequences without trying to blame the government or excuse councils, either Tory or Labour ones for subsequent adaptations. I naively hoped that you might enter into this in a calm and rational way and maybe show where I’m wrong, but you seem to just want to rant and fling insults from the Daily Mail lexicon.  This may be your idea of fun but it just bores me.  Sorry.  I like to engage with people who show some capacity for reflection but you seem driven by some overwhelming grudge and fury that must be expressed at all costs.  I wonder if you have any Labour or LibDem  supporting friends?  Somehow I doubt it or you would realise that your idea of a fanatical ‘politically correct wokism’ is just a fantasy.  Most Labour councillors, like most Tory ones, are just trying to do their best in challenging circumstances.  I might come back if you calm down.

This is in no way irrelevant, Rosco.  As there have been cuts over the years then all councils have to decide how to respond to this.  Apart from trying to streamline procedures, they might decide to reduce services or they might decide to increase rates in order to maintain the same level of services.  In other words councils’ performance is going to be affected by the level of government grants.  It has been argued (not by me) that a conservative government might be inclined to be more generous to conservative councils than Labour ones in which case it would not be a level playing field possibly leading to poorer performance by the latter.  But, like I say, I’m not making that argument.But to return to your original question, have you done any research into objective measures of comparative performance of councils to see if there is any basis for your judgment or are you just relying on some some anecdote or well-worn prejudice? Finally, a word to the wise.  Try not to use the word ‘lefty’ - it makes you sound like a prat.
