Anchor tenant for the Oaks

It seems to be on the occasions I have been there that footfall at the Oaks has really picked up of late. It therefore is something of a surprise that the main unit at the front continues to be unlet. Hopes that Waitrose would take it are obviously not going to materialise after their announcement today but you would think there is a deal to be done with the landlord as the other tenants can't be happy that there is so much vacant space.

Unit probably is just a bit too big for them. McDonalds may have taken it if they didn't have a nearby presence already.

That would really be like getting the old band back together as Sports Direct were in the previous incarnation of the Oaks.Whether the developer really believed that they could take the centre upmarket and gentrify the High Street or simply pretended they could to get people to buy flats we will never know but personally I am delighted that the Oaks has become a cleaner less cluttered version of what it used to be except now with free parking!

Not sure what happened when the centre was talking to Marks and Spencer and Waitrose before but if they got greedy with the rent then they will be regretting it now. These bigger retailers are in retreat and quick delivery services seem to be taking off which is another nail in their coffin. Not quite sure what kind of business would take the site at the moment but I'd love it to be Sports Direct despite my views on Mike Ashley.
