Is Acton returning to any sort of normal?

It’s been so quiet through lockdown and it’s good to see pubs, restaurants and cafes beginning to re-emerge. And still doing so responsibly and largely outside, where possible.That level of quiet wasn’t normal in an urban setting. I do hope the Station House, Rocket, Churchfield Food Store and the other businesses in Churchfield Road can flourish again.Maybe we should resolve to shop, eat, drink locally to support them.

Fields has been open for ages: open Tuesday to Sunday - closed on Monday's.

From July Churchfield Road has certainly been busier with previously closed shops now open but I’m not sure it is anywhere near what you could call ‘normal’.  I believe Fed and Watered is still only open Friday to Sunday and this is partly due to their being unable to find staff.  I notice that other eateries on this road are also advertising for staff.  The pandemic, the ‘pingdemic’ and Brexit will all be factors in this situation.

It seems very quiet to me until you hit the inevitable road works in the High Street. It goes quiet every year when the schools break up and the pandemic doesn't seem to have altered that.

It could be that the amount of pings have resulted in a drop of them number of asymptomatic people getting tested because the don't want to cause chaos in the lives of their friends and family.Whatever the reason both the High Street and Churchfield Road seem busier than they have been for sometime at the weekend.

It's not just customers but staff that the test and trace app is causing problems for. One local restaurant owner told me that she has had at least one member of staff off over the last couple of months and some local businesses have been forced to close temporarily or reduce hours because of the number of people missing. It should be made voluntary whether you self-isolate or not particularly for the double jabbed as in many cases people have been given notifications which could only be because they have picked up their next door neighbour's bluetooth signal through a a wall.

I think the big problem at the moment is that people are more concerned about getting pinged by the test and trace app than getting Covid. For a lot of people this could be financially ruinous but for others it has provided the opportunity for a some days off to watch the football or the tennis. I know alot of people are now turning it off but not everybody and that accounts for my reluctance to get back spending more cash in local bars and restaurants.
