It would seem you should get on yer bike, Rosco and spend the next few weeks pressing some flesh and getting into political debate with as many folks as you can in Southall before you are entitled to your air your opinion.

Don't think the voting patterns you describe in Asian communities are particularly high in Ealing. The clue would be in the number of proxies given out and they don't indicate it is much of a feature of local voting. The system has been tightened up since problems emerged in Tower Hamlets but in that case the issue was mainly with recently arrived immigrants from Bangladesh. The Asian communities in Ealing are mainly second, third and fourth generation and probably have their own views on how to vote.

Agree broadly with what you say Mr Jones, and would add that in said Asian communities, the entire family votes how the patriarch tells them to - them's some number of block votes!!!  :-)Gotta also admire ole "Two Houses, Two Jobs, Secret Council Loan, 'It's the Tory cuts!'" in how he held off Momentum, quite some feat that!

The Labour vote held up in Ealing (and Hounslow) because of the significant proportion of support they get from the Asian communities. These tend to be loyal and are generally less exercised by Brexit - in many cases they are actually keen to leave the EU because they recognise that trade deals with their origin countries will also mean easier access to visas.Labour in the borough is really a coalition of a lot of interests which makes for consensus leadership and moderate policy making. Julian Bell has been good at bringing different groups together. However splits are appearing. Momentum isn't really a major force in the borough but is making some inroads and there seems to be renewed resentment among some of the Sikh community that they haven't had 'their turn' at having an MP in Southall. With the total implosion of the Tories and the failure of the local Lib Dems to make that much progress in the most favourable of circumstances the danger for Labour is that  internal tensions may come to the surface given there appears to be zero danger that the party will lose control of the borough any time soon.
