Notice to demolish the Goldsmiths Arms

Apologies for not replying sooner.  The council had accepted our request to submit our petition to save the Goldsmiths Arms.  We had prepared our presentation and the Rv Jon Westall was going to present on behalf of the community.  However the day before the full council meeting we were notified that the council could not accept it at a full council meeting as our petition was linked to a planning application.  The petition will be accepted as part of the communities objection to the demolition of the local pub and community resource at the planning committee.  We would have like to have had an opportunity to present our case to all councillors as it is possibly outside the remit of the planning committee to consider the wider socio-economic, health and well-being issues of losing a popular community resource.

I think that they were saying that they could not have it presented and discussed at the general council meeting because a planning application is in progress.I suspect that if they had objectors presenting then they would also have to give time to the developer - and decided that the appropriate place for that is the planning committee when the time comes to assess the application (assuming it goes to the committee ... which I expect it would in this case).

Jacqueline, when you say the Council have refused to accept the petition what exactly do you mean? Have they just refused to consider it at all or are they saying it is a planning matter and therefore outside their scope.From experience with planning the problem often is that it is not about how unpopular a plan might be but what the law says and a single proposer can outweigh thousands of objectors if they are within the planning regulations.

Jacqui, well done for getting that petition going, I've just added my name to it. I have reservation as hardly anyone used it before so if it does survive, if it is to become a community asset, people need to use it. But it needs to be a place people want to useThe planning for flats there is monstrous. We have a huge glut in Acton at the moment and whilst i'm definitely not one of these people who believes no more people should move here, we need to keep some sense of community with shops, services, pubs, cafe's and restaurants. Well done and I hope what you are doing is enough to save it.
