However, there are different standards for diesel.The ULEZ standards are:Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehiclesEuro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehiclesEuro VI (NOx and PM) for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles (NOx and PM)Euro 3 became mandatory for all new motorcycles in 2007Euro 4 became mandatory for all new cars in 2005 and light vans in 2006Euro 6 became mandatory for all new heavy duty engines for goods vehicles and buses from January 2014, September 2015 for cars and light vans, and September 2016 for larger vans up to and including 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight.

Many cars will be exempt from the ULEZ. My car is 13 years old and is exempt, which leads me to think that perhaps they are looking in the wrong place for emissions controls.Go and have a look at the vehicles that typically pass through Ealing every day - if you can stand hanging around the A40 or North Circular - you'll see a lot of lorries and vans, all pumping out diesel.Sticking some electric charging points in and around Ealing won't make any difference to what they are emitting, as you well know.Of course, everyone's reliance on Amazon and other internet shopping outlets means that there's been a huge increase in van journeys around London in recent years. How many of you eco-warriors order online, rather than walk or take public transport to the shops?

Why do you think that everything is confined to and revolves around Ealing?It isn't/it doesn't.  There is a move towards electric vehicles right across London and beyond.  What about the cars that start in Ealing and cause pollution passing through other areas of London?  Why should they be absolved from any responsibility for the reduction in air quality they cause?

A reminder though - for those inside the North Circular ... i.e. Acton ... the ULEZ charge is due to start in October 2021.Watch out for cameras going up on your streets.

I agree with Robin.This is not a measure to reduce pollution in the borough. The bulk of emissions in Ealing is generated from through traffic on the main arterial routes, many of which suffer from severe congestion due to poor road design and management of roadworks (such as the North Circular).Ealing Council has embarked on a strategy to monetise the roads in the borough. It views residents as cash cows to be milked if they happen to own a car and don't have off-street parking.If the Council was so determined to stamp out the 'curse' of air pollution it would not be extending its shared use bay policy, which actively encourages non-residents to drive into the borough to park, adding to congestion and pollution.Air quality may be poor, but that's due to a combination of factors. Of course, the simplest (and fairest) solution would be to impose a congestion zone charge across the borough to deter car use. They won't do that because even Julian Bell isn't stupid enough to risk losing his cushy job by pursuing policies that would upset his voters in Greenford.

this is a money-raising exercise by the Council:  it is purely commercially driven.  Residents parking has become increasingly difficult and expensive year-on-year and these charging points remove spaces from already stressed areas. If you live in any of the streets mentioned I strongly recommend that you object: these points could be positioned in areas that the council already manage - carparks & High Streets - which would be more convenient for users. BTW - Electric vehicles are not green:  Battery Production is one of the most toxic manufacturing processes on the planet.

The more of these that there are the easier it will be for all those who do not have driveways to charge their electric cars.  Car share electric cars too.  The lack of charging points is so often given as the reason for not going electric.  The apps will show you the distribution of charging points.
