Cats on leads in Parks
There seems to be a growing trend for people to take their cat for a walk in the park, usually with a tight fitting harness. Ferrets have also been spotted. I have seen this in Gunnersbury and Acton Park.I am well aware of the dog laws, being a dog owner, and that dogs must be under control. So if a dog running freely in the park attacks the cat on the lead it would be the dog owners responsibility etc...This would be of little consolation to the owner of the cat, although there is no such thing legally as cats are not chattel due to their independent lifestyles.I wonder how much enjoyment the cats get out of this outing? most of them seem to want to break free out of their harness and run up a tree.My understanding is that they are territorial, free roaming animals so is it right to take them to a park that is not their territory, in this manner? If cats wanted to come to a park full of dogs would they not do so on their ramblings? I have seen loads of foxes, early, but no cats.It might be worth reminding these cat owners that what they are doing might not be kind.I have never owned a cat so I might be completely wrong in this.
