Nat West Bank - Starbucks

Lady in the Post Office this morning said that Starbucks are taking over the Old Nat West Bank.

thanks for this Maire, I wondered what the posh new Windows at the old HSBC were for. Nice to know we're getting a few more flats, just what we need!

We have been told the HSBC building will be flats with a commercial ground floor. Starbucks have signed for a corner site in the Oaks. Along with LIdl and Wilco. No word on M&S food. No community space.

I was told it was the Nat West Bank but perhaps it's the old HSBC Bank. Nat West would have been ideal for the Post Office but there u go.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the old Nat West building looks untouched and the new Windows have gone into the old HSBC building. So is Starbucks going into that or the Nat West building?

Saw that work has started on the NatWest bank and new full height glazed windows have been put in. Builders there at the moment. Anyone know if this is going to be Starbucks or something else? Also dreadful shops on Crown street have been demolished. Result!

It’s nice to see tax dodging foreign companies doing well, while British brands that do behave ethically go down the toilet isn’t it? I’m sure Starbucks have done the maths and figured out there are a lot of coffee drinkers in the area. If you think this will raise the tone i wouldn’t hold my breath.

Tarantella didn't do it right.  Shame though. Well, we have to wait and see if "the lady in the Post Office"s statement can be confirmed.I can't believe that so many people want coffee.  Remember the good ol' days when you couldn't get a decent cup anywhere?

I agree that every other shop is a coffee shop and it's boring to see another one opening. On the other side, we had a proper restaurant, Tarantella and it's now closing after not even 1 year. Not sure Starbucks will give a boost to the high street either cause we all thought the same when Costa Coffee opened and it doesn't look it made a difference. Anyway, better Starbucks than Chicken Cottage or similar.

I do agree but wouldn't a proper restaurant be better?  Every other shop is a coffee shop.I suppose the rent is high for that site and jolly old Starbucks have got the money.  Clue's in the name!

I don't like starbucks but i agree it is positive for the high street. I remember when they moved into Shepherds Bush green it was an indication that the area was changing and it helped bring better shops to the area. It certainly beats another terrible fried chicken (how do they survive?) place or an awful 1 star burger joint.

It was the nice Chinese lady behind the Counter who told me when I asked why they were not thinking to move into the old Bank.

Whoever moves in I hope they are of sufficient "calibre" that there's a positive and uplifting effect on nearby dodgy Crown Street.

Sarah, I would rather a Starbucks, than another cheap chicken takeaway, estate agents, etc.  Hopefully if Starbucks does come, then other shops may wish to take a chance opening in Acton, as it is in dire need of a proper High Street.  And with the High Street in decline - as seen online - we desperately need shops, else how are you selling all these hundreds of flats being built, and enticing footfall (and let's be honest - spending) into the area - rather than elsewhere.

as much as i hate their coffee and business ethics this would be a huge boost for the high street if true. Starbucks always seem to attract more shops to areas- and is seen by estate agents as a marker for growth.
