If revenue is the point of these changes (which let's face it, it is) then the competitive pricing of parking is important. They need to attract enough commuter and holiday parkers to make the change worthwhile. If the spaces are taken up by visitors and tradespeople there will be no revenue boost because this parking was paid for already by visitor vouchers. The next problem comes when enough space is taken to mean that residents are having trouble parking. It would be naive to think that the Council will decide to abandon the scheme at that point because of the negative impact. They will say that the problem is too much demand because of low prices which therefore need to be increased. So not only will we be paying more for permits but for visitor parking too.
