recycling textiles

Put out textiles in bag as instructed on recycling day - operator refused to take them. Apparently the "new" lorries are not equipped to take textiles. It took a complaint to the council for a nice man from the contractor to make a special collection.

If you can think past the kerbside textile collection - into which you can put everything including that holey single sock (hopefully clean) you would be amazed at all the info.It also gives help on where you can sell vintage clothes.

Hounslow of course has a different system.If Ealing has said it will collect textiles then it should.  However sometimes you do not want to wait for another week for collection especially since they have to be collected separately from the mix in the recycling wheelie bin - if you are using a wheelie bin.  Not all of us are.

I don't see why they can't just collect them. If Hounslow can do it, so can Ealing.

More info on recycling textiles.If you put your postcode into the recycling locator you should find alternatives to the kerbside collection.  There may be somewhere you visit regularly where there is a recycling bank.https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/clothing-textiles-0

Ah that explains why my bag of textiles which on top of my recycling bin was not collected last Tuesday.

This is for an official recycling collection:"Any unwanted clothing, can be put in plastic bags and placed on top of or beside your blue wheelie bin for recycling on your next recycling collection day."https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201171/recycling_services/1780/textile_recyclingI was phoned back with the assurance that, in future, operators will tell their supervisor to come and make a collection. So hopefully no more problem.

The textile bags are not issued by the council. These are companies collecting, supposedly for charity but my understanding is that they are resold. I take textiles straight to the dump and if good enough to the charity shop.
