Planning: 44 Shakespeare Rd – Conversion of Victorian Villa to 3 Flats!!!

An application has been submitted to convert a small Victorian Villa into 3 flats. This seems like another case of gross over-development & overcrowding, or an attempt at it, in our neighbourhood. You can help to stop this though. Please bear in mind that this property is one half of a Semi and is attached to a lovely family home.  Imagine the chaos if everyone decided to turn their lovely homes into blocks of flats.Please please get involved. It would not only mean more cars, parking issues in and out of CPZ but more rubbish and bins in the front garden (removing side access on plans so no alternative) but we must prevent this type of development ruining Acton Central.  Time is very short to leave an objection comment even though it has only just appeared in detail on the portal. "Backhanders for passing these applications springs to my mind."Surely Beryl you are not accusing the Ealing Council Planing dept of taking backhanders?I am shocked!I was told that the car wash in Horn lane got planning permission to make 26 flats with 4 parking places (one was for disabled).In an hour.I guess that makes it alright.I am still shocked and need to meditate.

I am afraid a precedent has started. You should see what property developers have planned for three prestigious streets on Acton Hill. So far Hillcrest Road has lost eleven beautiful family homes converted into flats and even a small road of 5 Town Houses has replaced a beautiful Mansion House. At the moment we are fighting the ultimate loss of two family houses into flats. 5 flats in the bigger  house. Sadly Chiswick is having the same problem. It was bad enough having to live with the buy to rent "  band wagon. "  People coming and going and not caring to look after the properties and front gardens aways full of junk. Noisy parties too . Sad days we live in .We have successfully stopped one house from being converted. Unfortunately thes develpopers have an  abundance of cash and keep appealing . Our Councillor is doing her best to help us . Falling on deaf ears with most others . Backhanders for passing these applications springs to my mind.

West of Ireland born here Paul. My least favourite landlord is also Irish, treats his tenants and neighbours with casual indifference and has a beautiful sprawling house for himself overlooking the Atlantic. Tax? Paul, Neither was I and many others in Acton but the point is that we live here now. Foreign born in this case can mean Chalfont St. Giles or Ottery St. Mary. We have two absentee landlords next door to me. The tenants and remaining leaseholder have endless problems with maintenance. freehold issues, waste management and so on. Out of sight our of mind.

Dave, you are not alone in being concerned about the transformation of family houses into units only suitable for well off singletons who eat out a lot. I think we must ask who actually benefits from all this Acton development? Could it just be the foreign born 'developer' keen to make a quick profit before leaving again? The Central Acton Neighbourhood forum (CANF) is set up to give residents a  stronger say on what goes on in their own neighbourhood.
