Begins with world premiere of Little Dorrit adaptation set in the British Raj

A new season of productions at The Questors Theatre begins on Friday 20 January with an adaptation by David Hovatter of Little Dorrit.
It will be the world premiere of this new version of the Dickens novel which is set in the British Raj, where Little Dorrit, a young, loyal daughter, works tirelessly as a seamstress to provide for her family. But when a young gentleman follows her, hoping to discover his family’s secrets, both their lives are soon turned on their axes.
In a harsh and punishing world, it is Little Dorrit’s kind-hearted nature that helps her impoverished family climb the ladder to a world of riches and prosperity - and back down again.
The play satirises class, wealth and British-Indian relations during colonial rule.
There are just eight performances in the Judi Dench Playhouse in a run that lasts until 28 January with a socially distanced performance on 22 January at 2.30pm.
From 27 January to 4 February there is a double bill of drama in the Studio.
Escaped Alone & What If If Only are two short, sharp, mind-bending dramas by Caryl Churchill which The Questors describes as bitingly subversive plays exploring human agency, possibility and the future.

In Escaped Alone, three old friends and a neighbour meet for tea and catastrophe during a summer of afternoons in the backyard.
What If If Only contrasts one man’s life with his infinite future possibilities. This cryptic play powerfully asks: can we recapture the past?
There is a socially distanced performance on Sunday 29 January.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is being performed in the Judi Dench Playhouse from 11 February to 18 February. The Tennessee Williams play had to be postponed from the originally planned run last year due to issues with the roof. An adaptation of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House by British-Indian playwright Tanika Gupta is being staged in the Studio from 24 February to 4 March.
This reimaging of Ibsen’s classic play is set in Calcutta during British colonialist rule in 1879 . Niru, a young Bengali woman, is married to English bureaucrat Tom. To him, she is a prize possession, a doting wife whose purpose is to serve. But when she takes agency of her own, how will he respond?
It was originally staged at The Lyric in 2018. This production is directed by Meneka Das.
First night is just £8. Standard prices £14-£18.
This month also sees the return of Susan Hamlyn’s Literature Classes here at The Questors. Now in its 30th-anniversary term, classes are open to everyone and designed to be warm and friendly.
Starting from 17 January, classes will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 10am-12pm and meet in The Shaw Room.
