Ealing Broadway has appointed ten-year-old Iris from Ealing as the shopping centre’s first ever Chief Fun Officer (CFO) after a competition launched in September. Iris was chosen from a large field of entries for her creativity and enthusiasm for retail and family experiences, and she spent a full day sampling the centre’s family-friendly offer ahead of the Christmas season.

Iris’s application impressed the judges with imaginative ideas, including a detailed design for a “mouse mansion” toy shop, and with a clear passion for making shopping fun for families. As Chief Fun Officer she was invited to review the centre’s attractions and provide feedback on what works well for children and families as the centre prepares for the festive period.

Iris’s day at Ealing Broadway showcased a cross-section of the centre’s family-oriented retailers and experiences. She began by sampling fluffy Japanese pancakes at Fuwa Fuwa, then chose a new outfit at Primark, collected a goodie bag of colourful stationery from Smiggle, and potted a plant to take home at Greenka. In the afternoon she sampled chocolates at Leonidas, browsed for a new book at Waterstones, and reviewed the lunch menu at Comptoir Libanais. To finish the day she and her friends enjoyed bowling, karaoke and arcade games at Gutterball.

Iris said she “had the BEST day at Ealing Broadway” and described the experience as “like having my very own Yes Day,” praising the food, activities and time spent with family and friends. Her mother, Lucy, said the role suited Iris perfectly because she is always full of imagination and energy, and she thanked the Ealing Broadway team for making the day special. Andrew Rollings, Centre Director at Ealing Broadway, thanked everyone who entered the competition and said Iris stood out for her creativity and passion for retail.
