At least three people from the Ealing area have appeared in this year’s Queen’s birthday honours list.

There was an MBE for 88-year-old Ella Marks for services to the community in the London Borough of Ealing.

During her career she has undertaken many formal voluntary roles, informal neighbourly action, and had a professional social work career.

As President of the League of Jewish Women (LJW), 2007-2010, the organisation went from strength to strength. After ending her term of office, she continues as a ‘wise counsellor’, advising and guiding

As Chair of Ealing U3A, 2005-2008, her work oversaw the smooth-running of more than 20 different cultural groups, enabling thousands of older members of Ealing’s community to remain intellectually and socially active. She is respectfully regarded as an ‘elder’ of Ealing U3A and is frequently consulted on managerial and policy matters.

As a longstanding volunteer with Ealing Talking Newspapers for well over 20 years, she has contributed recordings so that visually impaired people across the Borough could receive their local newspaper in a format they could access.

Also receiving an MBS was Barjinderpall Lall from Greenford who is Head of Skills at JGA Group, London. The award was for services to Apprenticeships and Skills Training.

A British Empire Medal was given to Gail Tchiprout for services to Homeless People and the community in Hanwell. The mother of six children is a long term volunteer at the Ealing Soup Kitchen working as a chef.

There are a total of 1,134 people on the list issued by the Cabinet Office for the Queen's birthday honours in 2022 of which 1,002 received an OBE, MBE or BEM. 673 of the awards were for outstanding work in the community and 51.5% went to women with 13.3% going to candidates from ethnic minorities.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
