Eric Leach's Ealing Covid-19 Latest Update

30,572 vulnerable Ealing residents have now been vaccinated

Mass Vaccination Also At CP House, Uxbridge Road, W5

A fourth Ealing Covid-19 vaccination centre opened at CP House at 97-107 Uxbridge Road W5 5TL on 2 February 2021. Staff from the West London NHS Trust, based in Southall, are providing this service. However there have been complaints from Acton and Greenford residents about the lack of mass vaccination centres in their neighbourhoods.

Apparently as of 2 February 2021, 30,572 vulnerable Ealing residents have now been vaccinated.

Covid-19 Infection Rates Across Ealing Still High But Falling

Ealing has the second highest Covid-19 infection rate in London at 374.2/100,000 – second only to Hounslow. But this is falling. A month ago it was 1,077.5. Southall Green has the highest rate I can find at 528.5, but this has dropped on 9 days out of the last 10. The lowest rate is Ealing Broadway West at 135.1.

As of week ending 3 February 2021, Ealing had more new Covid-19 cases (1,279) than any other London borough.

Mass Covid-19 Vaccination and Covid-19 South African Variant Testing: All in Central West Ealing

Vaccinations began at St John’s Church in Mattock Lane West Ealing on Thursday 4 February. The initiative is being driven by Mattock Lane Pharmacy (MLP). Reports are that it’s well organised and the AstraZeneca vaccine is being dispensed. Those vaccinated were even given a date for their second jab in April 2021. The plan is to achieve 1,000 jabs/ week in February and 2,000/week in March. For those local people of 65 or over with no computer or Smartphone access, the pharmacy wants them to call on 020 8567 9153 or to visit the pharmacy in St Johns Parade, 8 Mattock Lane, W13 9LL. The pharmacy will take their details and organise a time and date for their vaccinations. The MLP vaccination contract runs until August 2021. Watch the vaccination centre at work here.

As well as the South African Covid-19 variant testing in Dean Gardens, West Ealing, teams dispensing home testing kits are roaming large parts of West Ealing and Hanwell. You have to register on your computer and this is long winded and not very straightforward. If you don’t give a mobile phone number the registration process grinds to a halt. My test was collected after two hours and my negative result was texted to me after 48 hours. This exercise must be costing a fortune – and exactly what purpose is it serving? We understand a W7 resident contracted the South African variant almost five weeks ago. So no urgency here. Just what will the data collected be used for? Obviously if there are positive tests, NHS Test &Trace and self-isolation will kick into place. The results of this exercise will be interesting to read – if in fact we ever see them. And my test was negative by the way.

For Covid-19 Response Exercise – Try Warren Farm in Southall

Warren Farm is now 61 acres of re-wilded meadows and home for rare birds, mammals, plants, reptiles and insects. More than a decade ago Ealing Council agreed the meadows should be a nature reserve, but has yet to take action on it.

Recently Britain’s leading walking charity, the Ramblers Association, has supported a petition to protect Warren Farm. This petition was launched by the Brent River and Canal Society. Over 5,700 people have signed the petition. To join with them go to: www.warrenfarmnaturereserve.co.uk

Covid-19 Delayed New Crossrail/MTR Elizabeth Line Stations Get Closer to Completion

Lift installations have been completed at Acton Main Line and Ealing Broadway. Final ‘snagging’ work is taking place at West Ealing Station. Of the four new stations, the one closest to completion is Acton Main Line.

Ealing Council Facing Covid-19 Response £27.7 Million Budget Gap

The Council is proposing to make savings of £11 million and to raise Council Tax by 4.99%.
