The organisers of a march taking place this weekend against Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) are hoping for an even bigger turnout than was seen last year.

A similar demonstration last September attracted what the organisers estimated to be 2,500 participants.

One Ealing are asking people opposed to the council’s traffic schemes to assemble at 3pm in Blondin Park on Saturday 24 April. The protestors will then march in a Covid-safe along Northfield Avenue to the council offices at Perceval House.

One of the organisers Laura King said, “Everyone is welcome including children. Please wear a mask if you are able to. We hope to replicate the feel good atmosphere of the March we held in Sept 20' where we had a crowd of approximately 2,500.”

One Ealing claims that rat-running is not a significant problem in many of the areas where LTNs are being imposed and they are unhappy about the lack of engagement and consultation with the community. In some cases it is alleged that the requirement for vehicles to circle around residential streets has actually increased traffic and pollution.

Supporters of the LTNs claim that they have already been successful in reducing traffic in areas where they have been introduced and that they are cutting pollution and making cycling and walking safer.

There are currently nine LTNs being trialled in Ealing. You can also have your say on LTNs in the borough via the council’s Commonplace website.

Residents can visit the low traffic neighbourhoods' page of Ealing council's website for further information on the schemes it has already implemented.
