Abigail with her reward
November 27, 2025
A night of celebration at Greenford Assembly Hall saw 32 young people from the Guides recognised for their outstanding contributions, including 13-year-old Abigail, 13, from Ealing 4th Guides.
Abigail received the prestigious Jack Petchey Achievement Award for her kindness, reliability and calming influence within her unit. Known for embodying the Guide Laws, she has become a role model to her peers. Fellow Guides often seek her out to complete activities, and when they hesitate, Abigail gently encourages them to join in. Her ability to make others feel welcome and included has earned her the reputation of being “a sister to all Guides.”
On receiving her award, Abigail said: “It was an unforgettable experience that I will always remember!”
Each Achievement Award comes with a £300 grant for the winner to spend on their unit. Abigail chose to invest in a Vango Tacoma 8‑man pole tent, ensuring her Guides group will benefit from new opportunities for camping and outdoor adventures.
Her decision reflects the spirit of the award — using recognition not just for personal pride, but to create lasting benefits for her community.
Since its launch in 1999 by Sir Jack Petchey CBE, the Foundation has invested over £180 million in programmes across London and Essex, directly benefitting more than 1.3 million young people. In Ealing alone, the Foundation has contributed over £1.1 million to support youth initiatives.
More than 250,000 Achievement Awards have been presented to date, with over 2.5 million people attending celebratory events. Sir Jack’s vision remains clear: “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
