A planning application (P/2022/2977) has been submitted for a new piece of public art on the Sky Campus in Isleworth.

A ‘floating tree’ sculpture is being proposed for the centre of a roundabout on Grant Way which is off Syon Lane.

Designs submitted with the application suggest that what looks like a living tree would appear to be suspended in mid-air growing from an orb.

The structure, which would be 6.75 metres high would be suspended on three stainless steel supports and is part of a broader programme of public realm improvements in the area. It would be illuminated at night.

Access to the road is controlled by a 24-hour security gate and Grant Way is an adopted highway. The sculpture would be at the northern end of the road.

Hounslow Council planners are recommending approval of the plan as they say the design of the sculpture would preserve the character and appearance of the surrounding area and would not harm neighbouring properties or highway safety. The nearest residential properties are over 350 metres away.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
