With around 5-6000 people estimated to have come along to last year’s Brentford Canal Festival, the 2025 could be even bigger still.
The free event, organised by local community action group Brentford Voice, is in its fourth year and takes place on Saturday 21 June.
It offers a day out celebrating the historic canals, waterways and creative communities of this neighbourhood.
This year there will bemore going on than ever, with activities for everyone in a number of locations across Brentford: The Grand Union Canal, River Brent and River Thames, in Brentford Market Place, The Gauging Lock, Brentford Lock Piazza, The Grand Union Canal Walkway, Workhouse Dock and Brentford Lock West.
There will be free sightseeing boat trips, kayaking and paddleboarding taster sessions, International Dance Troupes, Katakanu trips, Art Exhibits, Morris Dancing, Street Food Market, Kid’s Activities & roving entertainers, Arts and Crafts Workshops, Artisan and Makers stalls, RNLI lifesaving demos, Inland Waterways Association and Canal & River Trust stalls and loads more.
There are six stages for live music including three brand new locations, at The Beehive Car Park, Brentford Lock West and a floating stage at the Brentford Gauging Lock. The acts featured range from fresh young talent c/o Powerjam Band Project and Orange Hill Studios to established performers like Maddy Carty and Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers (from legendary folk-rockers The Men They Couldn’t Hang).
It’s a packed schedule so you’ll need sustenance to keep you going. This is ably supplied by the fabulous local cafés, restaurants, pubs and bars along with loads of offerings from street food stalls (courtesy of TandT Markets London), so there’s something for everyone to keep you going throughout the day.
