Residents of Acton have been taking part in Reduce and Recycle Hubs at Acton Market since last October.

During that time, the organisers have calculated that the initiative has helped achieved a reduction in carbon emissions (CO2) of 2.83 tonnes.

The Traid recycling station that collects clothing, shoes and small electrical items to prevent them going to landfill has gathered 284kg of unwanted clothes and shoes and 96kg of appliances. In addition, it has been worked out that 450.7m3 of water savings have been made.

The next Reduce and Recycle Hub takes place this Saturday (3 June) on the Mount. As ever there will be a host of local organisations and businesses coming along on to help people in Acton to #reduce, #reuse and #recycle.

The market’s local foodie stalls will be back so you can sample the flavours of Ghana, India and Lebanon.

Other old and unloved items that you can bring to the site include laptops for donation to the Fixing Factory (, pens and writing instruments, toothbrushes and other dental items.

Ealing Repair Café ( will be there to help you learn how to fix your clothes and you can get your Bikes checked with Dr Bike (2 pm-5 pm). You can also drop off your tools with the Renew Sharpening Service (for which there is a charge) or speak to them about their services.

There will also be a Book Swap where you can bring and take items with the Churchfield Community Association.

The subsequent date for the Reduce and Recycle hub is Saturday 8 July and generally after that on the first Saturday of the month.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
