The third ever Acton Market Community Day is planned for later this month with live DJs, kids’ activities, food from the market traders and a special guest appearance from Sandra of Gogglebox fame.

The event on Saturday 24 August will also focus on the gift of life with talks highlighting messages about personal safety and safer communities and the fact that violence can never be the solution. The event is aiming to raise anti-violence awareness, by illuminating the dangers in West London to young people of joining gangs, the escalation of crime, violent and anti-social behaviour.

Vanessa Hyman, who set up A Mother’s Teardrops in memory of her son Anton Hyman who was murdered in 2004 on Mother’s Day, will be speaking. Vanessa has campaigned tireless for 20 years to raise awareness among young people of the value of life. She said, “There is no community without unity. If I can change one young person’s mind that violence is not the answer, it will all be worth it.”

The Community Day runs from 11am to 9pm with the theme being “Community first: We are all in this together.”

Similar community events were held last year and in 2021 and were deemed to be a great success, so the organisers are looking forward to having another great day that inspires our community.
