Iris Axon Concert Series Returns for the New Year
Violinist Amber Emson and pianist Leah Nicholson to perform

The first event in the Iris Acton Concert Series in 2024 will be a performance by award-winning violinist Amber Emson and pianist Leah Nicholson.
They will be playing a programme based on composers with Parisian connections at 4pm on Sunday 7 January at Acton Hill Church.

Lili Boulanger: 1. Nocturne (1911). 2. Cortège (1914).
César Franck: Sonata in A Major (1886)
Sergei Prokofiev: Sonata for violin and piano No.1 in f minor Op.80 (1938-46)
Maurice Ravel: Tzigane (1924)
The duo met at Chetham’s School for Music and are currently both scholarship students at the Royal Academy of Music. Leah Nicholson began studying with Galina Sandovskaya in St Petersburg, Russia and has won top prizes at numerous competitions internationally and throughout the UK, including the 2014 International Chopin Festival in Mazovia, Poland, Polyphonica International Competition in St Petersburg, Russia, the Scottish International Youth Piano Competition, the Loretto James Waterhouse Piano Competition, EPTA Piano Competition UK and Chetham’s Bösendorfer Piano Competition. She is also the youngest ever winner of the Keldwyth Young Musicians Award.
Amber Emson started playing violin at the age of five as a pupil of Natasha Boyarsky. In 2018, she was awarded 2nd prize at the 10th International Competition for Violin and Viola ‘Szymon Goldberg’ in Meissen and in June 2019 she won first prize in the National Round of Germany’s ‘Jugend Musiziert’ competition and 1st prize at the International Music Competition Hohenpriessnitz.
