The Iris Axon Concert Series Continues

The next concert in the Iris Axon series takes place on Sunday 7 November at 4pm at Acton Hill Methodist Church.
It will be given by pianist Robert Bridge who will play Scriabin Sonata- Fantasy no.2 in G sharp minor, Op.19 and Brahms Sonata in F minor, Op.5.
Robert says of these pieces, “This programme brings together two sonatas written by their respective composers at the beginning of their careers: Scriabin’s Sonata-Fantasy is an evocation of the sea, both its placid tranquillity and its stormy turbulence, a piece of smouldering and scintillating piano virtuosity; Brahms’ F minor sonata is the last of a trilogy of early sonatas that pay their homage to Beethoven, at times more symphonic than pianistic. Both sonatas, coincidentally I’m sure, make use of a little repeated-note motif: in Scriabin’s hands this is variously hypnotic and urgent; for Brahms a clear reference to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.”
The church, which is on the corner of Woodlands Avenue and Uxbridge Road still requires face masks where possible and social distancing.

Programmes and tickets can be purchased at the door. Tickets cost £5.00 for concessions, £6.00 for adults and £2.00 for children.
