Who's Up For The Acton Cup?

Enter now for 5-a-side 'Futsal' tournament

The Summer holidays will kick off with the 6th Acton Cup Futsal Tournament, organised in partnership by Acton Extended Schools and Ealing Youth & Connexions Service.  Futsal is a Brazilian version of 5-a-side football, which uses a heavier ball and encourages close control and quick passing.

The 5-a-side tournament will take place on the 29th July 2011 at Linford Christie Stadium, 10:30am until 4pm.

The Acton Cup is a bi-annual football tournament that attracts over 100 young people from the local area.  Most of the teams are made up of friends from local estates around Acton, with some school based teams.

Ian Wingfield, Extended School Co-ordinator, explained, “We have established The Acton Cup over the last 3 years and seen it grow into the most talked about football tournament for young people in Acton.  There is a healthy rivalry between a real mix of teams.  Some will be looking to get their hands on the cup for the first time, while last year’s winners will be defending their title.”

It promises to be another great event, with young people eager to get their boots on.  Zak Makeri, aged 12, added “I really enjoy playing teams from other estates and I always meet someone I haven’t seen in a while which is great.  I hope they keep doing tournaments like the Acton Cup, a lot of my friends really look forward to taking part and maybe winning it one day.”

The Acton Cup has two age groups:  11-13 years and 14 – 16 years.  Futsal is a 5-a-side game, with each team having a maximum of 8 players.

Local young people are encouraged to enter a team by contacting Ian Wingfield on 07961 203 212, iwingfield@actonhigh.ealing.sch.uk or Tim Owen on 07912 580 162, towen@ealing.gov.uk
