St Albans Church Planning Application Update
Opposition to the proposed development of St. Albans Church on South Parade grows and local residents have already won the concession of an extended consultation period. Your Liberal Democrat ward Councillors also campaigned successfully for the proposals to go before the Planning Committee.
Local Southfield Councillor Andrew Steed said: “This is an important distinction as it means that there will be a site visit from the Councillors of the Planning Committee. There is a petition against the development. If you would like more information please contact me at southfield@ealinglibdems.org.uk”

Sign Up For Free Summer Boredom Busters
Ealing youngsters can now sign up for a range of free courses and activities, such as football coaching, photography and fashion design, taking place over the summer.
The council’s ‘Futureversity’ programme offers 11- 19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with additional needs) the chance to learn new skills and earn nationally recognised qualifications over the summer holidays. More than 1000 young people took part last year.
Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “All the courses are free of charge and places are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. Some of the qualifications on offer include FA Level 1 football coaching badge, Rookie Lifeguard certificate and a Red Cross First Aid certificate.”

Report of the Southfield Ward Forum
At the last Southfield ward forum meeting, your three Liberal Democrat Councillors gained a commitment from the Council’s officer responsible for trees, not to prune the trees in spring time.
This year many residents complained about the severity of pruning. Residents were also annoyed by the fact that pruning occurred in the Spring and not in the autumn as originally planned.
Councillor Harvey Rose said: “We invited the tree officer as many residents were upset and had many questions about the recent severe tree pruning. It was positive that the Council will ensure that future pruning will occur in the Winter and not in Spring.”
The next ward forum meeting takes place on Tuesday 27th Sept 2011 at 7.30pm, held at the Carlton Road Day Centre.
Ideas for where Southfield needs kerb improvements to aid those with disabilities or parents with prams
It was agreed to build on the good work done in the St Albans Avenue area to upgrade a number of the kerbs and paving so that those using disability scooters can get to the shops easier.
Money has been allocated by your three Liberal Democrat councillors to improve another area.
Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “Most locations have had improvements over recent years but we want to choose the best location for any kerb improvements we make in the future. Do let us know by replying to this email or pass this on to your neighbours so we can get a good list to choose from.”
Ealing Broadway Transport Interchange
You may be asking why we are raising the matter of a transport interchange for Ealing Broadway, when we live in Chiswick or Acton?
Quite simply over the past year Liberal Democrats have been pressing Ealing Council to take action to ensure that as Crossrail plans are agreed that Ealing is not missed out from the opportunity of having a transport interchange like Hammersmith which really links all the types of travel together.

The Southfield FOCUS team hold monthly surgeries on the first Saturday morning (10am to noon) of each month at St Alban's Church Hall, South Parade, W4.
You do not need to book in advance – just turn up! A ward councillor will assist you in getting things fixed, whether it be a faulty paving stone or something more complex.
Andrew Steed says: "There is no need to book a time - just come along, bringing any paperwork that may be relevant."
