Residents' show their opposition at site visit

Planning officers were on Saturday greeted by a group of 40 local residents who voiced their opposition to an application to demolish 91 Shakespeare Road and build family homes in its place.

According to Mark Dietch, Chair of 'Save 91 Shakespeare Road', 70 residents have submitted letters of objection to the application, which will be heard by Ealing Council's planning committee tomorrow night, 20th April.

The residents' group says the demolition of the building is ill-thought out and would be a loss to the Victorian architecture of the street. They say the building, formerly the Conservative Party Headquarters for Acton, is an asset to the community with many historical and local associations.

A spokesperson for Ealing Council told ActonW3, "Residents are often concerned about applications for new developments and we go to great lengths to get plans amended so they are as sympathetic as possible to the local area.  For applications such as this one, which are likely to attract a lot of consultation responses we would nearly always put the application before the planning committee.

"Negotiating with developers to improve proposals, particularly for controversial applications, is a very important part of the process but it can sometimes take more than eight weeks. 

The Council Planning Committee will hear the case at 7pm tomorrow.
