Flats Above Gunnersbury Lane Shops Told To 'Clean Up Their Act'
Hounslow Council issues twenty four 'warnings' for rubbish left out on wrong days
Hounslow Council has warned residents living above shops on Gunnersbury Lane that they will be penalised if they continue to put out their rubbish at the wrong times. The Council issued twenty-four enforcement notices to residents in one area recently.
The council is cracking down on litter across the borough and says such residents could face an £80 fine if their waste and recycling bags are not put out correctly. Section 46 Notices are legal notifications outlining the householders’ responsibilities for placing their waste out on the correct day in the right location.
The notices were issued to residents above shops in Gunnersbury Lane at the junction of Princes Avenue, following complaints from local people.
The council enforcement team say it is closely monitoring the area and any bags left out on the wrong day will be investigated and fixed penalty notices issued to those found responsible.
"Most flats above shops receive two weekly collections. Bags left out at the wrong times make the streets look messy and can be viewed as fly tipped rubbish by other residents," says the Council. The notice also highlights the consequences of putting waste out at the wrong time and the fact that this leads to accumulation of waste by encouraging fly tipping.

Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Community Protection, Hounslow Council, said: “The work in this area is already paying off and there has been a noticeable reduction in the number of bags out on incorrect days and a significant reduction in fly tipping on Princes Avenue.
“The issuing of Section 46 Notices is something we will be rolling out to all flats above shops in the borough. Once these have been delivered to residents there should be no doubt about when and where to leave bags out – and no excuses if residents are fined.”
