Queen Visits Acton Factory

'Laid back' Queen charms workers in W3

The Queen has officially opened a factory in Acton which helps to place disabled people in mainstream employment (12/02/2004). The factory Remploy packages CD's and on her visit the Queen was shown how a Coldplay album is packaged.

The factory provides work for 60 disabled people assembling a variety of products.

Her Majesty opened the new Remploy unit at 33 Wales Farm Road, and was received by the Chairman (Mr Alan Pedder) and the Mayor (Councillor Gurcharan Singh).

The Queen toured the building, escorted by Mr John Waterhouse (General Manager of Remploy Workscope)

“She was interested in how we put together the special CD cases, including Coldplay’s 2003 Live double album,” one worker commented.

Another worker commented “I was surprised how easy she was to talk to, she is very laid back – I expected her to be more stand-offish.”
