Key Workers in Acton Facing Huge Hike in Parking Costs

Big increase in charges at Salisbury Road car park

Key workers living in Acton including NHS staff are facing a big increase in parking costs now that the dispensation they received during the pandemic no longer applies.

Before lockdown the annual charge for using the Salisbury Road car park behind the town hall was £400 but this has since been raised to £750.

Along with Springbridge Road in the centre of Ealing this is the highest annual price the council charge for any of the car parks they own with some in other parts of the borough available for £750.

The council recently announced that it was ending the Key Worker Parking Dispensation.

This has left Dr. Sean McLauglin in a difficult position. He said, "I live at the Old Acton Town Hall development , and as such do not qualify for residents’ parking as the Old Town Hall is classed as a new build development.

"I now have to find alternative arrangements for parking and now find that while giving Key Workers a dispensation during the pandemic, the council has almost doubled the annual parking permit for Salisbury Street parking in Acton."

He adds that this has caused a huge amount of stress to key workers living in the building.

An Ealing Council spokesperson said:, “We are incredibly grateful to key workers for their vital work over the previous 15 months.

“Like many other councils, we are phasing in normal parking restrictions as London continues to open up and restrictions are eased further. Most councils did this several months ago, but we have opted to keep our special parking provision in line with the government’s COVID-19 restrictions, which changed on 19 July. As a result, normal parking restrictions will apply from 1 August and we contacted all dispensation holders on 9 July.

“Ealing Council is part of the London Councils Health and Emergency Badge which is open to those involved in the delivery of primary healthcare attending medical emergencies in patients' homes.”
