Accidents and near-misses lead to safety concerns
Concerned students and teachers at Twyford School are organising a petition to be handed to Ealing Council. They are asking for a crossing on the Uxbridge road, near the Tesco garage, so that everyone can cross safely.
Hazooria Taan and other students at the school say that crossing the Uxbridge Road is dangerous, especially for children and the elderly. There are large numbers of pupils from Twyford C of E High School crossing the road - particularly in the early morning and after school.
Accidents and near-misses happen all too often and one Twyford pupil was killed a few years ago. Pupils have been campaigning for a pedestrian crossing for a number of years. Despite promises from the council, nothing has materialised.
Cllr John Gallagher told us: "After councillors representing all three political parties agreed the funding at the now extinct Acton Area Coommittee last year, the funding disappeared. The police advise there have been about twenty accidents over the last two years and I have been made aware of a fatal accident involving a pupil some years ago."
