A prolific shoplifter responsible for a string of thefts at local petrol station has been convicted following a targeted policing operation that linked him to eight separate offences and losses of around £1,600.
Clive Martin was identified through ongoing neighbourhood policing work focused on tackling retail crime. Officers arrested him after catching him in the act at BP Western Avenue in Park Royal. They then carried out a detailed investigation involving CCTV analysis, intelligence development and evidence gathering. This allowed them to connect Martin to a wider pattern of repeat offending that had caused significant concern to staff and the local community.
Working closely with store employees, officers prepared a comprehensive case file which was presented to the court. Martin was found guilty, delivering justice for the business and reinforcing the message that persistent retail crime will be met with firm action.
Police say the conviction is part of a broader effort to reduce shoplifting and anti‑social behaviour in North Acton. The operation has already produced positive results, including identifying key repeat offenders, increasing opportunities for enforcement and contributing to a noticeable reduction in losses reported by the store.
Neighbourhood officers emphasised that shoplifting is far from a victimless crime. Repeat thefts place pressure on businesses, affect staff wellbeing and undermine community safety. They say the case demonstrates their commitment to identifying prolific offenders, pursuing criminal justice outcomes and supporting retailers affected by crime.
PC Wheeler, from the North Acton team, said officers will continue to work closely with partners and local businesses to make the area a safer place to live and work.
Martin will be sentenced on 27 November.
