A 45-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a violent attack in Acton Park earlier this month left a man in his thirties fighting for his life.

Adam Abdillahi, of Australia Road, White City, was arrested on Thursday 9 April and charged the following day. He appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Friday 10 April, where he was remanded in custody.

A second man, aged 44, had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday 4 April. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

The charge follows a serious incident on Thursday 2 April, when police were called to the southern end of Acton Park at 5.29pm after reports of an altercation near The Vale. Officers arrived to find a 31-year-old man collapsed on a footpath with a stab wound to his back, reportedly inflicted with an axe.

Met officers provided immediate first aid before paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance took over. The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector John Gillespie, who is leading the investigation, said the priority remains the welfare of the injured man and his family.

“Our thoughts remain with the man and his family as he continues to receive medical treatment,” he said. “This incident took place towards the bottom of the park, close to a busy main road, tennis courts and a mini golf course. If you were nearby and saw anything, or captured any footage on your phone, please come forward and speak to police.”

A large cordon was put in place around the south-west corner of the park following the attack, with forensic teams expected to remain on site over the Easter weekend. Officers at the time stressed that the nature of the incident did not suggest a wider risk to the public.

Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with footage from the area. Information can be provided by calling 101 and quoting CAD 5835/2APR, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
