A 23-year-old man from Acton has died after being attacked near his home on Rosebank Way.

Fernando Johnson was getting out of his car on the road near the A40 Western Avenue at 2.15am this Thursday morning (26 January) when he was reportedly approached by two men.

The police say he suffered serious injuries but have not yet determined whether he was stabbed or shot. He was treated by paramedics but, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report in the Evening Standard, his family are perplexed by his death and say he was an aspiring musician with no gang affiliations.

A family statement issued by the cousin to the Standard said: “He was greatly loved by family and friends and well known to the community he always had a smile on his face and greeted everyone with a big smile and hug.

“He was a loving family man. He wanted the world to hear his story through his music. He was passionate about achieving his ambitions.

“He was a talented footballer and played for QPR as a youngster. He was very polite and brilliant with people of all ages. It’s a great loss to the family and community, we will make sure his memory lives on. His mother, father, grandmother and two elder brothers are devastated like all of us. He was the apple of their eye.”

His family are being supported by specialist trained police officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Denby, who is leading the investigation, said, “I am saddened to see the needless death of another young man on our streets and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

“At this early stage my team is conducting local enquiries around the scene and are keen to hear from anyone who saw, or has heard, anything that might assist our investigation.”

DCI Denby, added: “At this stage the nature of the injury sustained by the victim is unclear. This will be confirmed in the coming days. In the meantime, I urge anyone, who knows anything, to do the right thing and tell police what they know. No matter how small a detail, it could make a difference – please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

Following the killing a Section 60 and 60AA Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 was authorised from until Friday, 27 January, covering East Acton.
