Stop and Search powers extended and extra officers drafted in

The police have exercised extra powers to stop and search suspects and brought in more officers from other areas after intelligence indicated possible disorder may be about to take place in the Acton area.

A video statement by Chief Inspector Graham Durn has been published in which he outlined the reasons for the move.

He said ‘off-borough’ resources are being posted into Ealing and particularly the Acton area.

He added, “This is in response to intelligence we have received about some potential disorder and our aim is to prevent any disorder and reassure our communities.”

Authority has been given by a senior police commander under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which gives Police officers the power to stop and search individuals for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments. They may require the removal of certain items of clothing.

This has been authorised by Commander Brogden from 16:30hrs on the 10 March until 0300hrs on 11 March. A similar order was made for the 8 & 9 March,
