Serial Acton Arsonist Jailed For Six Years


Kastoytis Metlovas started a number of fires in homes across the W3 area

A man has been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to carrying out a number of arson attacks in the Acton area.

Kastoytis Metlovas was convicted of five separate offences including starting a blaze near the junction of Churchfield Road and Horn Lane. The fire ripped through the building causing massive structural damage and it took 6 fire engines to bring it under control. Three women, two men and two children were lifted from a second floor of the property above Atlas Estate Agents and adjacent to the Estoril restaurant. Firefighters used a nearby building's ladder to rescue a further two men who were on a flat roof at the rear of the block. Two men were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke.

After setting this premises ablaze the Metlovas, proceeded to ignite a number of smaller fires around the W3 area, causing damage to property and danger to life.

DC Joe Cato of Acton CID said, “This was an extremely dangerous situation involving a number of arson attacks throughout the Acton area which included a residential premises being set alight in the early hours of the morning, forcing residents to jump out of windows in order to escape the burning building.”

Thankfully the residents managed to escape the blaze unharmed.

The day after the blaze detectives from the whole of Ealing CID conducted extensive CCTV and witness enquiries before identifying Metlovas, arresting and charging him for the offences, all within 24 hours of the incident.

Metlovas was sentenced to 6 years and 11 months imprisonment for the arson offences and an offence of Possession with intent to supply class A Drugs.
