Blaze on corner of High St and Crown St
The High Street and Crown Street were closed earlier today due to a fire in two flats above the 24-hour shop on the corner where the two roads meet.
Councillor John Gallagher told us: "I was about to go shopping in Morrison's sometime after 1pm when I noticed a crowd gathering by The King's Head and a smell of smoke.
"I saw smoke coming from a window above the 24-Hour shop on the junction of Crown Street and the High Street and two fire engines. Police were arriving as I got there.
"Smoke appeared to be coming from every top floor window and firefighters were trying to extinguish it. Several ambulances also arrived.
"There seemed to be a swift response from all the emergency services, for which we are ever thankful."
We were later told by someone at the scene that it is not believed that the fire was suspicious, but an investigation is on-going into the incident.
Residents reported chaos with traffic diverted along local streets.
Crown St remains closed at this time, but there are no other diversions in place.
